BookmarkBug started with a simple observation: authors need honest feedback from real readers, and readers love discovering new books. We built a platform that brings the two together.
What we do
We hire readers to read books and share their genuine editorial feedback with authors. Not star ratings. Not one-line summaries. Real, thoughtful responses about what worked, what didn't, and where the book lost them.
Authors use that feedback to sharpen their writing before it goes to print. Readers get free books and get paid for their time and honesty. Everybody wins.
Why this matters
Most authors write in isolation. Friends and family say "it's great!" no matter what. Writing groups are stretched thin. Professional editors cost thousands. What authors actually need is a room full of honest readers — people who will tell them the truth about how their book lands.
That's what BookmarkBug provides. We vet our readers, manage deadlines, and make sure authors get feedback they can actually use. Every response is the reader's own honest opinion. We never tell readers what to say.
How it works
Readers sign up, browse available books, and claim assignments that interest them. They read the book on their own schedule, then submit structured editorial feedback. Once the feedback is approved, they get paid via direct deposit.
Authors get feedback from multiple real readers — the kind of unfiltered perspective that's nearly impossible to get anywhere else.
